National Pool Lifeguard Qualification


The RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is the most awarded lifeguard qualification in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Combining theoretical work and practical training, you will become a fully accredited pool lifeguard, learning key life skills –first aid, CPR and rescue techniques and gain an internationally recognised lifeguard qualification. The NPLQ course duration is 36 hours with an optional integrated element such as First Aid at Work and/or AED training. The course is comprised of physical training and theoretical classroom work, followed by a practical in-water and out-of-water assessment on pool rescue, first aid, CPR and lifesaving skills. The RLSS UK NPLQ is not just a qualification, it can be a stepping-stone into a career within the leisure industry.

RLSS National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC)

This course assists those with responsibility for supervising swimming groups and activities identify hazards, prevent accidents and take appropriate emergency action where required. This course is accredited by Lifesavers and the Royal Lifesaving Society and recognised by Amateur Swimming Association (ASA), Swimming Teachers Association (STA), Institute of Sport and Recreation Management (ISRM) and the Institute of Swimming Teachers and Coaches (ISTC)

This course is aimed at anyone who teaches or coaches programmed swimming activities. Prospective swimming teachers would also benefit from this training course. You do not need any previous lifesaving experience to train for this award but you must confidently be able to swim 20 metres on your front and back and be able to learn a variety of skills.

Automated External Defibrillator


The RLSS UK Automated External Defibrillator (AED) course trains you to competently use an AED, a vital tool that saves lives in an emergency and can be found everywhere from leisure centres to schools. If you use an AED, you are 75% more likely to save someone’s life during cardiac arrest.
